If you just need 3GB of space you can get it even cheaper from They are one of the leading European hosting companies (hosting over 500 000 websites), and they currently have a promotion in the UK. They are offering free hosting and a domain (you have to pay the £9.00 setup fee and that’s it). Every plan includes Photo Gallery, WebEditor, Google Adwords coupon and a lot more. Check them out.

One single PC/computer can act as a web server for several hundreds of domains at the same time.
Outgoings:
The cost of a PC unit: £500 (no screen, no keyboard, barebone, terabytes hard drive(s), and linked to a central PC that controls several)
Software: free if it is Unix/linux based + Php & mysql.
Domain registration: once registered as provider, free.
Running costs: backbone www connection: depends on traffic!
(If hosting not-very-active websites, like blogs, small, a few order a month e-commerce etc – 99% of websites – Not much more than the cost of a phone line. As an Ebay, of course… £1000′s/DAY, but that is another question)
Room rental: a simple garage can hold over 1000 PCs… (Free?)
Electric’s bill: not much for 1 PC…
Income:
100 domains at 1.30/m x 12 months x 2 years: £3120
Profit: £2620.
10 servers -> 26k over 2 years. Nice pocket money!

It’s cheap for us because it’s not expensive for them.
Because it’s not expensive for them, it used to be an easy way to quickly get rich, so tons of hosting companies popped up overnight, and now they have to compete to be dirt cheap, or they dry up and have to close.
